Your room stays your room.

What Farmin uses from your headset and your Meta account, why, who sees it, and how long it is kept. The short answer: your room, your hands and your eyes never leave your headset. Only your leaderboard scores and achievements go to Meta.

The short version

Who we are

Farmin is made by Aftermath Development, an independent game studio in Michigan, United States. This policy covers the Farmin game for Meta Quest and this website, farmin.aftermathdevelopment.com. We are the data controller for the processing it describes. Our other games and websites are covered by the Aftermath Development privacy policy.

Questions or requests about your data: inepsa@gmail.com.

What Farmin uses, and how

Farmin is a mixed reality game: it builds a farm inside the room you are standing in. It uses two kinds of data, and they are kept strictly apart.

  • Data that stays on your headset. Your room layout, floor depth, hand tracking and, if you choose, eye tracking. Farmin uses these on the headset while you play and sends none of them to us, to Meta or to anyone else. They are never used for leaderboards or achievements.
  • Data that goes through your Meta account. Farmin has no account of its own. Its leaderboards, achievements and ownership check use the Meta account you are signed in with on your headset, through Meta's platform services. These are the only network connections Farmin makes.

Your headset asks your permission before Farmin can use spatial data (your room) and eye tracking. You can refuse or later withdraw either one in your headset's settings. Without spatial data the farm cannot be placed in your room. Without eye tracking, look and pinch simply follows the direction your head faces instead.

Stays on your headset

Used by Farmin on your headset. None of this is sent to us, to Meta or to anyone else.

Room layout

Spatial data permission
How it is captured
Read from your headset's Space Setup after you allow spatial data: the outline of your walls, floor and ceiling, and the shapes of furniture you marked.
Why we use it
To put beds, crates and barrels on your real floor, keep pets inside the room and away from furniture, and remember where your farm sits.
Shared with
Nobody. It never leaves your headset.
How long it is kept
Read fresh each time you play and not stored by the game. Only the identifiers below are kept.

Room and anchor identifiers

How it is captured
Random identifiers your headset's software gives your room and its floor, together with the position of each farm object measured from that floor.
Why we use it
So every bed, crate and pet comes back to the same spot next time. Anything whose room cannot be found is offered back to you rather than guessed at.
Shared with
Nobody. They are stored on your headset.
How long it is kept
In your save until you reset the farm or uninstall the game.

Live depth

How it is captured
Brief readings of how far away the floor is, taken from the headset's depth sensing a few times a second while you play.
Why we use it
To check your real floor height, so nothing floats above it or sinks into it.
Shared with
Nobody.
How long it is kept
Discarded within seconds. Never stored.

Head, hand and controller tracking

How it is captured
The positions of your headset, hands, fingers and controllers, supplied by the headset every frame.
Why we use it
To let you grab, pinch, pour, pick, dig and brush through the plants with your hands or controllers.
Shared with
Nobody.
How long it is kept
Used for that moment and discarded. Never stored or logged.

Eye tracking

Optional · off by default
How it is captured
Only on a headset that tracks eyes, such as Meta Quest Pro, only after you turn on Eyes in the game's settings, and only once you accept the headset's eye tracking prompt.
Why we use it
To tell which item you are looking at when you pinch, so it comes to your hand (look and pinch).
Shared with
Nobody.
How long it is kept
The direction you are looking is used and discarded each moment. The game remembers which item you looked at for about one second, so a pinch can act on it. Nothing about your gaze is stored, logged or sent.

Saved farm and settings

How it is captured
Written to your headset as you play: your farms in House and Desk mode, what you have grown and stored, your coins and stats, a day-by-day record of your farm's totals for the earnings chart, and your settings.
Why we use it
To keep your farm growing between sessions and show you how it is doing.
Shared with
Nobody, for the copy on your headset. See cloud backup below.
How long it is kept
Until you reset the farm or uninstall the game. The daily record keeps your most recent 240 days.
Through your Meta account

Handled by Meta's platform services for the account you are signed in with. Farmin sends only what is listed here.

Meta account ID and name

How it is captured
Provided by Meta's platform when the game starts, after Meta confirms you own the game: an identifier for the Meta account signed in on your headset. Your Meta display name and username come with your leaderboard entries. We do not receive your email address or your friends list.
Why we use it
To record your leaderboard scores and achievements against your account, and to confirm you own the game.
Shared with
Meta. Your display name (or your username, if you have no display name) is shown to other players next to your scores on the leaderboards.
How long it is kept
Farmin saves your account identifier on your headset with your achievement progress, so progress earned on one Meta account is never sent for another. It is removed when you uninstall. Meta keeps your account under its policy.

Leaderboard scores

How it is captured
As you play, the game sends Meta your score for each farm statistic its leaderboards rank, such as the weight of your biggest show pumpkin. Only the number is sent: scores come from your farming, never from your room, depth, tracking or eye data.
Why we use it
To rank you against other farmers and show everyone how they compare.
Shared with
Meta, which stores the leaderboards, and every player who views them, who sees your display name, score and rank. Your Meta friends also see you on their Friends view. We can see leaderboard entries through Meta's developer tools.
How long it is kept
By Meta until the leaderboard is reset or removed, or your Meta account is deleted. You can ask us to remove your entries at any time.

Leaderboards you view

How it is captured
When you open the leaderboards in Farmin's menu, the game downloads the entries it shows, in three views: Top, Around Me, and Friends. Each entry is a player's display name, score and rank. For the Friends view, Meta works out who your friends are and sends only their entries; the game never receives your friends list itself.
Why we use it
To show you the leaderboards in the game, and to let you know when a friend moves ahead of you.
Shared with
Nobody. They are displayed only to you.
How long it is kept
Held in memory while the game is running, and never saved.

Achievements

How it is captured
When you make progress toward an achievement or unlock one, the game saves it on your headset and records it with Meta.
Why we use it
To track your achievements and show them to you.
Shared with
Meta. Your unlocked achievements may be visible to other people on your Meta profile, depending on your Meta privacy settings.
How long it is kept
On your headset until you uninstall, and by Meta with your account under its policy. We keep no copy.

Purchase and ownership

How it is captured
Your purchase is handled entirely by the Meta Horizon Store. Each time Farmin starts, it asks Meta to confirm that your account owns the game. We never see payment details.
Why it is used
To confirm you own the game and are entitled to run it.
Shared with
Meta.
How long it is kept
Retained by Meta under its policy.

Cloud backup

A headset feature
How it is captured
If cloud backup is turned on in your headset's settings, Meta may back up the game's saved data to your Meta account. This is a feature of the headset, not of Farmin.
Why it is used
So your farm can survive a reset or move to a new headset.
Shared with
Meta, who store it against your Meta account. We cannot read it.
How long it is kept
Under Meta's policy, until you delete it or turn cloud backup off.

Coming soon: same-room multiplayer. It is planned but not in the game yet. It will involve sharing some data between the headsets in your room, and we will update this policy before it ships.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your email address, payment details, date of birth, precise location, contacts, friends list, photos, voice or recordings. What you see of your room through the headset (passthrough) is drawn by the headset itself: Farmin never receives camera images, and it does not use the microphone. Farmin builds no profile of your body, hands or eyes; tracking data is used live to play and then thrown away. There is no analytics, advertising SDK, crash reporting or telemetry in the game or on this website.

How we use it

Every use is listed against its data item above. In short, Farmin uses your data to fit the farm to your room, let you play it with your hands, and rank your scores and record your achievements. We do not use any of it to profile you, advertise to you, or make automated decisions about you.

How we share it

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Only these parties are involved:

  • Meta makes the Quest headset, runs the Meta Horizon Store and provides the platform services behind Farmin's leaderboards and achievements. Meta's software supplies the room, tracking and depth data above to Farmin on your headset; Meta stores your leaderboard scores, achievements and purchase, backs up saved data if you have cloud backup on, and, like any online service, sees your IP address when the game connects to it. Meta's own handling is governed by the Meta Privacy Policy.
  • Other players see your Meta display name, scores and ranks on Farmin's leaderboards, and may see your achievements on your Meta profile depending on your Meta privacy settings. They never see anything from the "stays on your headset" group.
  • Cloudflare hosts this website and keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability, under the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

We may disclose data if we are legally required to, or to protect the safety of players or the integrity of the game, for example to remove a cheated score. If the studio were ever sold or merged, this policy would pass to the new owner, and we would say so on this page first.

How long we keep it

We keep nothing on our own systems, because we operate none. Specifically:

  • Room, depth, hand and eye data is never kept. It is used while you play and discarded, usually within the same moment.
  • Your saved farm, including its room identifiers and daily record, stays on your headset until you reset the farm or uninstall the game.
  • Leaderboard scores are held by Meta until the leaderboard is reset or removed, your account is deleted, or you ask us to remove them.
  • Achievements, purchase records and cloud backups are held by Meta with your account, under its own policy.
  • Website logs are retained by Cloudflare on its schedule.

This website

This site is static. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts, and asks you for nothing. There is no account, no form and no newsletter; "Get launch news" simply opens an email to us in your own mail app. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google and Google may observe your IP address. Nothing else on the page reaches a third party.

Legal bases

Where the UK or EU GDPR applies: using your room layout, depth and hand tracking on your headset, and recording your scores and achievements with Meta, is necessary to perform the contract of providing the game you chose to play, with the features it is sold with. Eye tracking rests on your consent: it stays off until you turn it on and accept the headset's prompt, and you can withdraw that consent at any time. Keeping this website secure and available rests on our legitimate interest in operating it.

International transfers

Your room, tracking and eye data never leaves your headset, so it is never transferred. Meta and Cloudflare operate globally, so the data they handle, including leaderboard scores and achievements, may be processed in the United States or elsewhere, under the transfer mechanisms in their own policies.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export personal data held about you, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. Residents of California and other US states with similar laws have comparable rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for using them.

We keep no copy of your data, but we can act on the leaderboards through Meta's tools. You stay in control:

  • Email us to have your leaderboard entries removed.
  • Choose who can see your achievements, or delete your account, in your Meta account settings.
  • Turn Eyes off in Farmin's settings, or withdraw eye tracking permission in your headset's settings.
  • Withdraw spatial data permission in your headset's settings.
  • Erase a farm with Reset Farm in the game's menu, or uninstall Farmin to remove all its saves.
  • Manage or delete cloud backups in your Meta account.

For data Meta holds, requests are fastest made to Meta directly. Email us about anything else and we will help where we can.

Children

Farmin uses the Meta account system, which applies its own protections to accounts belonging to younger players, and Farmin never sends anything from a player's room, hands or eyes anywhere, whatever their age. Our websites are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Where local law sets a higher age of digital consent, such as 16 in parts of the EU, we apply that higher age. If you believe a child's information has reached us, contact us and we will delete it, including any leaderboard entries.

Security

This site is served over HTTPS. We store no player data on systems of our own, so there is none on our side to breach. Data on your headset and in your Meta account is protected by Meta's own security.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page whenever Farmin changes in a way that affects it, and always before releasing a build that uses something new, such as same-room multiplayer. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
